FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about delivery, returns, use and the technology behind TheraFactor® devices.

  • Is delivery free in Portugal?

Yes. We have a warehouse in Portugal and delivery is free nationwide, with no extra taxes or fees.

  • What is your return policy?

While it's very unlikely you'll want to return your TheraFactor® panel, we accept returns within the first 60 days with no restocking fee. Returns are sent to our warehouse in Portugal. See the shipping and returns page for more details.

  • Can I use my red light panel several times a day?

Yes, but we recommend waiting more than 6 hours between treatments.

  • What time of day can I use red light therapy?

Any time. Mornings are most common, but you can also use it before or after training.

  • What is the right distance and how long should a session last?

It depends on your goal and device. Recommended distance, time and frequency are in our usage protocol.

    See the usage protocol
  • Do I need eye protection?

Usually, yes. If your face is close to the panel during a session, eye protection is strongly recommended unless you're looking away or keeping your eyes closed.

Use the device in a well-lit room so your eyes can adjust to the light.

  • Does the light go through clothing?

Near-infrared can pass through clothing to some extent, but red light can't. We recommend exposing clean, bare skin whenever your setting allows.

  • Can I use my red light panel inside an infrared sauna?

No. Our panels aren't certified for use inside a sauna.

Light therapy is also less effective when the body is covered in sweat: photobiomodulation studies call for a non-thermal environment.

  • Is it safe for children?

Yes. As with any new treatment, check with your doctor and, if approved, adult supervision is strongly recommended.

  • Are there contraindications? Can I use the devices for a long time?

For a detailed look at contraindications and other considerations, see our articles.

With red light therapy, more isn't always better: the response follows an inverted U-shaped curve. The big advantage of TheraFactor® devices is getting the same benefits in less time.

We recommend at least 6 hours between treatments of the same area, no more than 15 minutes per session with panels and 20 minutes with flexible devices, 4 to 10 times a week, with at least one day off per week.

  • Can pregnant or breastfeeding women use red light therapy?

As there are no clinical studies of red light therapy in pregnant or breastfeeding women, don't use the device if you're pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor.

  • What is pulsing and what are its benefits?

Instead of a continuous NIR wave, pulsing switches the LED on and off very quickly, invisibly to the eye. The frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz), or cycles per second.

Some studies suggest pulsed light heats tissue less, allowing higher intensity to reach deeper without thermal damage. There's no consensus yet on whether continuous or pulsed light is better, or on ideal parameters.

The real benefit of pulsed NIR may be a lower dose, more in line with low-level light therapy (LLLT) science. As new studies emerge, our panels let you choose continuous or pulsed NIR from 0 to 999 Hz.

  • What is beam angle and why does it matter?

The angle at which light leaves the LED determines how quickly power density drops with distance. Wide angles (90 degrees) lose intensity fast, which isn't ideal for treating larger areas from further away.

Very narrow angles (30 degrees) need LEDs packed closer together, give higher "peak" readings on smaller devices and can be uncomfortable even to glance at. We consider them generally less safe and less practical.

TheraFactor® panels use an ideal 60-degree beam angle to keep therapeutic power density at greater distances with maximum comfort, usability and safety.

  • What is the difference between red (RED) and NIR?

Red light is absorbed closer to the surface, mainly by skin and hair, and is very effective for a healthy, youthful look. Near-infrared (NIR) penetrates several centimetres into subcutaneous tissue, reaching organs, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and even the brain.

  • Should RED and NIR be used together or separately?

Usually together, as they work in synergy, but you can also use them separately. At night it's best to use NIR alone, which is invisible and not stimulating.

  • Are the NIR LEDs working?

Near-infrared is beyond the visible spectrum, so you'll only see a faint glow in the centre of the LED. Rest assured it's delivering the intended energy.

  • Do red light devices give off heat?

Near-infrared gives off a gentle, pleasant warmth.

  • How long do TheraFactor® devices last?

Thanks to high-quality LEDs, lifespan is excellent: up to 100,000 hours. At the recommended 30 minutes a day, that's over 500 years. No need to worry!
